Mining Mystical Moments: Unlock Your Poetic Wisdom

With Barbara Heming

Transported from her birth place in Argentina to the United States at age three, Barbara grew up in a typical 50's middle class suburb of Philadelphia. Despite the twists and turns over the years, three threads run through her life: the spiritual, the advocacy for justice, and the love of language. She pursued a B.A. with a major in Religion and earned both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Spanish Language and Literature and taught in higher education.

Her wide-ranging interests have led Barbara her to learn to weave and start a small business, to volunteer at a Crisis Center Hotline, to spend a Sabbatical living in a small agricultural town in northern Peru, to enter a religious community, to work in an eco-spirituality ministry, to interpret for Spanish speaking women at their neonatal appointments and through the delivery of their babies, to coordinate a parish’s Hispanic congregation, to organize and present an eco-justice conference, write poetry, as well as write and publish a novel. Currently, Barbara lives in a remote canyon in northern New Mexico, gives tours of Georgia O’Keeffe’s Home and Studio, and continues writing.
